Invar 42 Sheet and Plate is an iron-nickel alloy consisting of about Nickel (41–43%), Iron (balance), traces of Carbon (<0.05%), Manganese (<0.8%), Silicon (<0.3%), and Chromium (<0.25%). It has a very low coefficient of thermal expansion. Mechanically, it provides a tensile strength of ~450 MPa, yield strength of approximately 276 MPa, and elongation of 30%. Physically, Invar 42 has a density of 8.12 g/cm³ and Curie point of ~280°C. Due to its dimensional stability with respect to temperature variations, it is the best material for precision parts.
