AWS Class ENiFe-CI Coated Electrodes have a composition of 55–60% Nickel (Ni), 40–45% Iron (Fe), and trace amounts of Carbon (≤0.15%), Manganese (≤1.0%), and Silicon (≤1.0%). The high tensile strength is around 480–600 MPa, the yield strength is about 350 MPa, while elongation is between 12–18%. These electrodes also provide a melting point of more than 1400°C as well as a density of about 8.2 g/cm³. ENiFe-CI electrodes have very good fusion properties, high crack resistance, and good machinability following welding. They are applicable for both cold and slightly preheated welding, which reduces heat-affected zone cracking in cast iron repair.

AWS Class ENiFe-CI Coated Electrodes have extensive applications for repairing and assembling cast iron parts, particularly when strength and machinability are critical. Typical uses are welding of engine blocks, machine bases, gearbox housings, pump bodies, and other gray or ductile cast iron components. The electrodes are especially useful when dissimilar metal welds (e.g., steel to cast iron) are needed.
