Mu Metal Round Bar consists predominantly of Nickel (77%–80%), Iron (15%–17%), Copper (4%–5%), and Molybdenum (2%–4%). It provides outstanding magnetic permeability and low coercivity, making it well-suited for applications involving shielding. The material is around 450 MPa tensile strength, yield strength about 300 MPa, and elongation of between 30% and 40%. Mu Metal is 8.7 g/cm³ density and melts at about 1450°C and is non-magnetic in the annealed condition. It has to be appropriately heat-treated to restore magnetic shielding characteristics following machining or shaping.
