Permalloy Sheets and Plates consist mostly of Nickel (78–80%) and Iron (20–22%), with minor additions of Molybdenum, Silicon, or Copper based on grade. This composition confers Permalloy its characteristic magnetic properties such as very high magnetic permeability and low coercivity. It possesses a density of about 8.7 g/cm³ and shows good ductility and moderate mechanical strength with a tensile strength of about 400–600 MPa and elongation of 30–50%. Permalloy also possesses low magnetostriction and high electrical resistivity and is therefore well suited for use in AC magnetic applications and electromagnetic interference shielding.
